News24 journalist Nokuthula Manyathi spoke to My Only Story writer and creator Deon Wiggett in September 2021 about the 18 months that had passed since the first season of the podcast aired to find out what kept him busy, including publishing a book in both English and Afrikaans.
"Other stories have come in my direction and I have had the opportunity to use some of my own past to understand the trauma of other people in similar but always different situations," he says.
"It is surprising how wide trauma goes and how many of us walk around with stuff – and how liberating it is to get rid of that stuff, or to say, there's this shame I've been internalising but nothing that happened to me is shameful. The shame belongs to the perpetrators."
